well, forgot to blog again yesterday, and I actually had something to talk about! lol

In class, we had a guest speaker talking about Addiction Medicine and people on/withdrawing from drugs and alcohol. It was pretty interesting and he was a great speaker, kept you interested. lol He acted out the stages of getting drunk (like we hadnt seen them before hehe) which was good, it woke me up anyway, especially when he fell over the table. He was even telling us how to make crack and other assorted street drugs lol (not so we can go do them, so we know what we are dealing with! hehe) He was a big shot chemistry guy in college, so I was lost on a lot of it, but thats ok.
Anyway, then at the end of class, he told us about his problem (and therefore the reason he is in addiction medicine now). It was a crazy story, and with all the things he did, he should probably be dead right now. He started drinking when he was 8 and was an alcoholic by the time he was in HS. He drank his way through college, (drinking weird things in Chem lab too) and still managed to work with a professor on stuff for the "Star Wars" defense program thing... he stopped drinking during the day on weekdays to think straight enough for it. So then he went to med school and somehow passed - started surgery, then switched over to emergency medicine. The strange part is, that even tho he was such an addict (alcohol and drugs too) his professional life was great. And the problem with that was, he was chief of EM, and had all that power and access to the heavy drugs. He was on so many things... totally crazy. He had major problems when his injection site was infected and he ended up pushing pus in the vein with the drugs, so he had a stroke. His wife saved him, but he refused to go to the hospital and treated himself at home... Life got worse from there and he had problems thinking... the DEA showed up at his house with all the scripts he had written... he went to rehab and surrendered his lisence and everything. Well... obviously he got better, and when he was clean for like 3 years, he wanted to try working as a Dr again, in addiction med. Such a crazy, sad story - I wanted to cry at times. He was such a brilliant man, really a genious, and he now has an injured brain... he has regained a lot of it, but hes not quite the same. He's really good at what he does tho.

So after class... I didnt even take a nap! wow haha I was better at packing this time, and got a few boxes ready for next weekend. Oh and I called home to get my doctor's #... we are apparently running out of time and options, so I'm trying to see if he'll let me do my rotation there (cross your fingers). Too bad by the time anyone was home the office was closed for the day, so I have to wait til Monday to try to talk to him... I'm kinda scared to ask. its a pretty big thing, and on really short notice (not my fault, but I still feel terrible.) So life is still up in the air for July....

Then Julie and I went shopping. She needed to return some things and find somethign white to wear for a croquet match tomorrow hehe I guess its some charity thing they do every year where she lives and everyone wears white. So I ended up spending $ again haha I got a new cross stitch project that will match my Mom's bathroom (lol yup - I'm bored!) and a shirt cuz it was on sale. oh well... Then I talked to Eric again... it's pretty nice to get to talk to him lately.

So the plan for today is... shower, grocery shopping, writting concussion paper.... fun fun oh yeah, and game 3 is on tonight too, but i might be too scared to watch the whole thing LOL

:O)

Flipped channels and saw Detroit score, grrrrr! (I cant watch the whole game, too stressful, so I checked on the 3rd per. lol) So thats about it...

yaaaay I can draw blood!! haha I actually did it quite well for a 1st timer :O) I found the vein and got blood from 1 poke and everything! hehe Apparently I have bad veins tho, and my partner had to "snake" around for the vein.. fun (the prof even said I had small veins before they poked around, so it wasnt Jen's fault haha) I'm only a little bruised, but it is sore... oh well...

oh, and I got a little surprise this morning too... the Dr. cancelled my 1st rotation!!!! So I dont know where I'll be July 1st... my prof said she is trying to find something in Erie, but we'll see... there is a site in New Castle, PA, but I dont know anyone there and there isnt housing available (like the Y in the other place)..so we dont know yet... Interesting tho... I got dumped haha And I dont think we can just switch things around and have my "research" first, since I'm working with someone... we shall see......

current mood: a little worried about my rotation... new reason tho!
todays topics: phlebotomy & knee pain... (they go together, dont they? haha)

oops... forgot to blog... lol
So Monday we learned how to give injections!! yipppeeee I can stick people with needles now! hehe well... we practiced on oranges, but they say we can do it now hahaha So that we fun :O) Then we had to talk about ethics in the afternoon... blah. very very boring, but i guess we have to go thru it....

Today we went to the hospital and practiced scrubbing! (Carolyn would have loved it :O) hehe) So that was fun too... who thought classes could be fun? haha At least we are finally learning "real" stuff, not just book work crap. And tomorrow we are doing phlebotomy!! more fun! lol

While class is "fun", it's pretty dull aroud here the rest of the time... I finished a cross stitch project and watched a couple of movies... for all the time I waste, I feel like I should be doing something else, but we dont even have homework for me to do! haha (besides write that paper hehe) I need a book to read... any recommendations?

Current mood: watching the game... my mood depends on the next 1/2 period hahaha (its 2-2 atm)
todays topic: OR orientation :O)

So now I am trying to be good and read my ethics book... but it is soooo boring. It's horrible. I hate philosophical stuff - just tell me what I need to know & I'll try to remember it... lol

well... Julie is back from Texas, so I'm not all alone anymore. Dont know how long she is going to stay yet, but its nice to have someone around.

current mood: bored, hate reading ethics...
