so.. finally...my crazy weekend... :O)
We left for the convention on Friday morning around 7 and after 2 stops and a slight detour we got to the hotle/convention around 3. Nathan was pretty excited, of course, and I had to convince him to get the room stuff done before he ran around the convention. hehe Then we checked into the convention part, so we could set up. It didnt actually open until 5, so we had plenty of time. When we walked in, Nathan looked at me and said "theres Ben Chapman" (the guy who played the "gill man" in Creature from the Black Lagoon) so he went over to him and said hi, shook his hand, all that...lol then just before 5, Nathan sold his 1st painting!! To another dealer who was walking by... it was funny, cuz the 2 guys were actually fighting over it! (they did rock-paper-sissors) That was a nice start :O)
The rest of the night went well... he sold another painting, to a guy who wants to open a horror movie themed resturant! very cool. After the dealer room closed, we went to watch a movie. They were showing horror movies all day/night, so there was something to do anyway. We saw Return of the Living Dead... crazy movie. Definately not as good as Night of the Living Dead but amusing anyway.
Saturday was a long day. Nathan and I kept taking turns taking breaks... He got quite a few autographs and stuff, so that was cool. I managed to get out and find a McD's for lunch and a grocery store, in case we didnt have time to get out for dinner again. Nathan also sold another 6 paintings!! That was cool. I'm really glad people liked his stuff... and had a place to put it! hehe He got quite a few compliments, but of course, not everyone wants that hanging in their house.
The dealer room closed earlier this day, at 7, so we had time to find some grub... and we certainly did! We didnt want to get lost or anything, so we just went down the main road until something looked good... we ended up at a steak house. Since there was a wait, we sat at the bar for a while. The bartender didnt check my ID, so Nathan just ordered a beer.... lol (his 21st is in October) Then she didnt charge us, so we figured it would be added onto our bill (it wasnt... oh well) We were then sat in a small room, and we could hear everyone elses conversations... especially since 1 group was rather loud... and taking about sex the whole time! (They were mid-aged, celebrating 1 couple's anniversary LOL) Then that group recognized one of the other people there, and talked to them across the room.. basically it became a big party. Crazy group, but they were having fun, so good for them. Well, it was taking a while for our food to come, and the manager came and appologized, offered us an appetizer and whatever. Then the waitress appologized again and offered us drinks, but we didnt want them either (it wasnt her fault, we couldnt let her do that, but it was good she offered) Then the Chef actually came out as well, and explained that they lost our order with their new system or something and told us he was making us dessert. LOL (of course, the loud group wanted to know why the chef had come out - like we were important or something! hehe) When we finally got our steaks (i had the fillet, nathan had the delmonico lol) they were absolutely fabulous!! OMG die... best I've ever had (yeah, I know, I havent gone out for many, but it was still wonderful!) We had to doggie bag the dessert tho.... (but i had some later.. also wonderful, of course)
Back in the room... we had HBO, so we saw the Baby Joe Mesi fight... all 1 min, 37 seconds of it!! LOL funny, cuz I wouldnt have saw it if we werent there... but it was interesting anyway. I can say I saw it.
Sunday was pretty boring. All Nathans better paintings were gone (after he sold 1 in the morning) and it was all people who had been there the whole time already. So we packed up and left at 4 (instead of 5... oh well) and made our way home. We didnt make the same mistake on the way out, so we made it home fine. All in all...a good weekend. The poster guys at the tables next to us were cool, and made for interesting conversation when things got slower.
To recap - the drive was kinda boring. Nathan sold 9 paintings. We had an expensive dinner. Lots of "interesting" people at the convention. Now I have to update Nathan's site, to reflect the weekend.
Oh, and Monday was my first day at my placement... I'm at Niagara Falls High School in an Earth Science classroom. I guess it went well. The teacher is cool and the kids werent too bad. And my group chapter presentation is done with. it went allright for the most part.
Now its off to spanish class soon... hasta la vista...
