WHYPeople are asking: What is this all about? Well, it has recently come to our attention that personal sites, blogs and web diaries are being censored. People have actually lost their jobs because of the content of their sites or web diaries. People are being threatened with expulsion from school because talking about people, their lives on campus, or events in schools, constitutes a violation of school policy. Even when the "questionable" content has been removed, people have still been prosecuted. YES, there are instances when censorship is neccessary. We are not promoting free license for child pornography or anything of that nature. We are not validating defamation of character. What we ARE asking is that people be able to speak/write freely on their web diaries and blogs. We as bloggers should not have to question the publication of every post out of a fear that we could be punished for something we have said/written. Blogging and use of web diaries are forms of speech or press and as such should be protected by our constitutional rights. Unfortunately, because these are internet publications, the question arises of which constitution they are governed by. By posting our logo on your site, you are saying that you support this belief. |
